Last Friday I spent the morning at the KSD offices participating in a community workshop. We had a main presentation by Dave Bond, Superintendent, then broke out into different workshops to learn more about certain topics. I attended the Technology in Middle School, where we actually got to use a new Texas Instruments calculator used in math class, Middle School Math where we learned of the district’s emphasis on getting middle school students into higher level algebra and Middle School English, where we received instruction just like a student on a pre-reading assignment. Lunch boxes, which were prepared by Tri-Tech Catering, were served while we listened to several Kennewick high school students about their time at school and how it prepared them for life after school. All in all, I left feeling that the district is progressing well, that the people involved really care about the success of each student, and that there are many, many options open to each student to follow their learning style and interests in order to succeed at school.
